THE REMIX PLAY SUMMIT, 15th Feb 2017



The Remix Play Summit will take place on Wednesday 15th Feb 2017 in the Disruptive Media Learning Lab (DMLL), Coventry University www.dmll.org.uk<http://www.dmll.org.uk/>



The event will examine the playful roots and meanings of play-based approaches, such as game-based learning and gamification. We will be joined by some of the leading figures in game and play in Higher Education for this full-day, interactive and hands-on event.



Ian Livingstone CBE https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ian_Livingstone will deliver the opening keynote. This will be followed by interactive sessions with Bernie DeKoven http://www.deepfun.com<http://www.deepfun.com/> who will explore Play in Higher Education, Sebastian Deterding http://codingconduct.cc<http://codingconduct.cc/> on Gameful Design for Learning, and Professor Nicola Whitton http://playthinklearn.net<http://playthinklearn.net/> who will lead a session on Play and Magic Circles.


The final plenary will focus on 'Play through Design, Design through Play'. This will be a unique opportunity for participants to work alongside Bernie, Sebastian and Nicola in a shared final session. The main takeaway here is for all participants to leave feeling confident their ability to create playful learning experiences.



During the day, questions for discussion include: What can play contribute to a "serious" learning environment? Can playfulness survive the increasing pressure students and staff are subjected to, to remain relevant in today's rapidly changing world? Is there the risk that play becomes just another tool?



The Remix Play Summit will be an opportunity for anybody who is interested in playful and gameful approaches to learning and teaching in Higher Education to explore Play in HE with renowned experts and a lively community.
