The ACE 2013 Committee invites submissions of proposals for Children
Workshops in preparation to the Advances in Computer Entertainment
conference, to be held in Twente, Netherlands, November 13th-15th, 2013.

==== IMPORTANT DATES ====

June 3rd:  Kit submission Deadline
June 18th: Notification of acceptance
July 1st: Submission deadline for extended abstracts and final kit
instructions

==== Call for Kids Workshops ====

ACE is not only the leading scientific forum in the area of
entertainment computing for the brightest of minds it is also a forum
for exploration and inspiration for the youngest of minds.

This year we seek to engage an ever-broader spectrum of younger minds by
pushing the boundaries of the conference beyond the walls of the
conference venue and into the classrooms and playgrounds of children
around the world.

To achieve this goal we are calling developers and researchers in the
field of entertainment to develop kits that will promote and support
children tinkering, exploring and creating media forms and elements.

The kits could be composed of physical or digital elements (or any
combination of both) and should be easily constructed by workshop
organizers by either downloading the kit from the Internet or by easily
sourcing out the materials using the instructions provided in the kit.

We would also like to encourage the call participants to develop kits
that address motor, cognitive and socio-economic challenges so that the
workshops may be deployed in any location and may address the needs and
concerns of the widest spectrum of the population.

All submitted kits will go through a review process. Accepted kits will
be made available via the conference web site and also distributed to
schools and child organizations around the world.

Developers of accepted kits will be invited to submit an extended
abstract for inclusion in the ACE 2013 Proceedings, which will be
published through a high quality scientific publisher.

During the conference itself we will showcase the workshops conducted
around the world using the kits, have a variety of panel discussions on
the development and deployment of the kits and provide a venue for local
children to engage with the kits.

After the conference the kits will remain available as a resource on a
dedicated web site.

==== Organization ====

Yoram Chisik (University of Madeira, Portugal)

Nanako Ishido (President of NPO Canvas in Japan)

Betsy van Dijk (University of Twente, Netherlands)

==== Submission Details ====

The kits could be composed of physical or digital elements (or any
combination of both) and should be easily constructed by workshop
organizers.

The activity should be no longer than 120 minutes (this limitation
relates to the duration of the "gameplay" and excludes time allocated
for set up, breaks, etc.)

Digital elements should not require anything more than a simple download
and installation or a web link.

Physical elements should be easily obtainable or easily constructed from
the provided instruction set.

It is advisable that the kit will be pilot tested with a local group of
children before submission.

Kit developers should also take an active role in the deployment of
their kits in their local area by contacting local schools and child
organizations.

==== Submission Rules ====
