Call for Participation

The Digital Games Research Association United Kingdom (DiGRA UK) announces
the Call for Participation for the conference of the association, to be
held 5th May, 2017, at the MediaCityUK in Salford, hosted by University of
Salford. DiGRA UK 2017 will bring together game scholars and professionals
working in the various area of digital games research from across the
United Kingdom.

The conference welcomes submissions of papers, abstracts, doctoral
consortia and panels on a wide range of topics associated with the study of
digital games, players and game cultures.

The conference will also host an organisational meeting open to DiGRA members,
where aims and self-management of the UK chapter will be discussed among
those who are willing to volunteer. This will include the election of the
new board of the national chapter.

Submission and selection procedure

DiGRA UK welcomes submissions on a wide range of topics, including:

Game cultures
Games and other cultural forms
Communication in game worlds
Gender and games
Games as representation
Minority groups and games
Games and childhood
The games industry
Independent games
Games criticism
Gaming in non-leisure settings
Game studies in other domains
Hybrid and non-digital games
History of games
Game design
eSports and spectatorship
Platform studies
Game production studies
Analog games

Full papers will be peer reviewed. Abstracts, panels and any other activity
proposed for the conference will be evaluated by the conference organising
committee (Dr Paolo Ruffino, Prof. Garry Crawford and Dr Esther
MacCallum-Stewart). Please note that in the future the selection process
will be moderated by the elected board.

Full Papers should be no longer than 16 pages, and will be presented in 20
minutes.

Abstracts should be no longer than 500 words, and will be presented in max.
10 minutes.

Panel proposals should be no longer than 500 words, and will have a
duration of 50 minutes.

We welcome contributions from participants who are not associated with
academic institutions as long as their proposal is relevant to game studies.

Important Dates

Submission deadline: 5 March 2017

Acceptance/rejection notification: 26 March 2017

Conference: 5 May 2017
