*About iMinds*
iMinds (www.iminds.be) is an independent research organization whose
task, assigned by the Flemish Government, is to encourage Innovation
through excellent Digital Research. Along with strategic research
programs, iMinds offers companies and organizations active support in
research and development and, for that purpose, stimulates companies,
authorities and non-profit organizations to work together on IT research
projects. iMinds also offers programs to inspire, train and coach the
next generation of IT entrepreneurs. The goal of iMinds’ incubation &
entrepreneurship program is to bring IT innovations to the market,
either by helping to build and grow successful high-tech IT ventures or
by driving innovation in industry partnerships and collaborative research.
iMinds Research consists of more than 850 researchers working at the 5
Flemish universities (Ghent, Leuven, Brussels, Antwerp and Hasselt). It
is an international, multidisciplinary research environment with top
talent coming from more than 50 countries throughout the world.
*About iMinds-MICT-UGent*
The research group for Media & ICT (www.mict.be) is one of the four
research groups at the department of Communication Studies at Ghent
University, and part of the independent research institute iMinds.
The context and focus of MICT’s research is today’s digital society &
economy, and more specifically the changes and challenges that are
imposed by that environment for each of its stakeholders: industry,
policy makers and end-users.
In this volatile environment, MICT tries to stay in touch with the
residential end-user and his expectations, experience, use patterns and
habits. We rely on a broad and interdisciplinary methodological
expertise and a team of +30 experts in new media and communication.
At UGent, MICT is the research group behind the Master ‘New Media and
Society’.
*Function description*
- Research on the use and experience of users in research
projects on various topics within the field of new media and ICT,
particularly the experience of augmented reality (AR) applications in
industry.
- Quantitative and qualitative user research with a critical and
social scientific attitude.
- Active participation in meetings.
- Write reports and scientific publications.
- Work in a team of colleagues from different disciplines and
with industry.
- Support the Department of Communication Studies.
*Profile*
- Master in Communication Sciences, Psychology, Statistics,
Sociology, ManaMa in quantitative technics or equal.
- Good knowledge of social science and/or psychological research
methods, in particular experimental research
- Good knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics.
- Experience with statistical software such as SPSS, R, or
equivalent program
- Pronounced interest in new media and information technology.
- A smooth academic writing style and a high level of (academic)
English.
- Good academic results and/or demonstrable aptitude for empirical
research.
- Stress resistant and aptitude for practical organization.
- Team player
- Enthusiastic and dynamic personality with predisposition to work
interdisciplinary (eg with engineers.)
