1. Serious Games Research Day (January 22, 10:00-17:00, Antwerp)

On January 22, the VUB (Olga De Troyer and Joachim Vlieghe), UGent (Sofie Van Hoecke) and HOWEST (Koen Samyn) are organizing a Serious Games Research Day in Antwerp (Berchem) on the occasion of the end of the IWT-SBO project Friendly ATTAC that aimed to develop a serious game against cyberbullying.

It is intended to become a network event for companies and researchers working in the area of serious game development. There will be two invited speakers (Jan Van Looy and Fotis Liarokapis) and we will present the results of our project, but we also offer external researchers the opportunity to present their own work (by means of a pitch and a table for showing demos and explaining details). We still have a couple of slots available for this. Registration for this free event is also still possible.

2. Call for participation in CHI2016 Workshop - Games as HCI Method (Deadline: January 15)

Karin Slegers (KUL & Iminds), Lizzy Bleumers (VUB & iMinds) and Pieter Duysburgh (VUB & iMinds) are organizing a workshop about Games as HCI Method at CHI 2016 in San Jose, California. It aims to experiment with using game design elements to improve HCI research, and to explore how such elements can become part of the different phases of design.

You can apply by submitting a concise position paper (1000 words max.) elaborating on your ideas and/or findings on how games can be of methodological use in HCI research.

3. Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA) and the Foundations of Digital Games conferences (FDG) joint conference (Deadline January 29)

For the first time, the Digital Games Research Association (DiGRA) and the Foundations of Digital Games (FDG) Conferences will partner in an unprecedented gathering of games researchers. Researchers and educators within game research, broadly construed, are encouraged to submit their work.

4. European Conference on Games Based Learning (Deadline March 17)

The Conference offers an opportunity for scholars and practitioners interested in the issues related to GBL to share their thinking and research findings. Papers can cover various issues and aspects of GBL in education and training: technology and implementation issues associated with the development of GBL; use of mobile and MMOGs for learning; pedagogical issues associated with GBL; social and ethical issues in GBL; GBL best cases and practices, and other related aspects. We are particularly interested in empirical research that addresses whether GBL enhances learning. This Conference provides a forum for discussion, collaboration and intellectual exchange for all those interested in any of these fields of research or practice.
